WWDC 2024: My Wishlist of Features and Improvements
With WWDC 2024 just around the corner, I’m excited to share my wishlist of features. Whether they’re AI enhancements or regular updates, here’s what I’m hoping to see. Remember, these are just my personal hopes and some of them might not even come to fruition. We’ll find out at the event tomorrow on Monday. Let’s dive into my wishlist!
AI Enhancements in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS
One of the main areas I’m looking forward to is AI integration across Apple’s devices. Rumors suggest that AI will be a major focus in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15.
AI-Powered Photography and Video Features
A feature I’d love to see is AI tools for photography and video, similar to what Samsung and Google offer. This could include the ability to remove unwanted subjects from pictures, move people around, and enhance photos. Apple’s neural engines, present in their devices for the past five to six years, are more than capable of handling these tasks. I hope these capabilities make their way into the Photos app in iOS, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15.
OpenAI Integration with Siri
Another exciting prospect is the integration of OpenAI with Siri. Imagine Siri with ChatGPT-like abilities—finally giving Siri a real ‘brain’ and making it truly useful. Although it seems this feature might be delayed to later in the year or even next year, it remains high on my wishlist.
Customization Options in iOS 18
I’m also looking forward to enhanced customization options in iOS 18. It’s been semi-confirmed that we’ll be able to move apps around and customize the Control Center. I really hope these features are included in the update.
iPadOS Pro: A New Hybrid OS
For iPadOS, especially for the iPad Pro and iPad Air, there’s a strong demand for a more professional operating system. However, I’m not advocating for macOS on iPads, as it would consume too much storage and battery life. Instead, I propose a hybrid OS, which I’d call iPadOS Pro, exclusive to M-series iPads. This OS would blend the best features of macOS and iPadOS, including windowed modes and other pro functionalities.
Improved Multitasking and Background Tasks
Another improvement I’d like in iPadOS is better multitasking capabilities. For instance, when exporting a video in Final Cut Pro, it should be possible to switch to another app without canceling the export. Apple needs to address this to enhance productivity.
Always-On Display for OLED iPads
Given that iPhones and Apple Watches with OLED screens have always-on display capabilities, it’s time for the new OLED M4 iPad Pros to have this feature too. I’m really hoping this will be introduced.
macOS and Support for Intel Macs
I’m eager to see the AI features introduced in iOS 18 make their way to macOS 15. Additionally, I hope Apple continues to support Intel-based MacBooks for a bit longer, perhaps until macOS 16. Even though Apple has been shifting towards M-series chips, Intel Macs should not be phased out just yet.
Apple Watch and WatchOS Improvements
With the major overhaul of watchOS last year, there’s not much I’d change. However, I’d love an app on the iPhone that lets users create custom watch faces, incorporating AI to design unique faces.
Exciting Hardware Announcements
Even though reports suggest no new hardware announcements at WWDC 2024, I’m still hoping for some surprises.
New Apple TV with A17 Pro Chip
I’d love to see a new Apple TV equipped with the A17 Pro chip, pushing Apple further into the gaming domain. This would enable even more advanced gaming experiences on the TV.
M4 Series Updates for MacBook Pro and Mac Mini
I’m also hoping for updates to the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with the new M4 chips. Even though it seems unlikely to happen soon, I’d love to see these updates before the end of the year.
Conclusion
That wraps up my wishlist for WWDC 2024. While I don’t expect all these features to be announced, I hope Apple will surprise us. What are you hoping to see at WWDC 2024? Let me know in the comments below.
Until next time, take care and see you soon!
